Body Language Speaks Louder Than Words

Has it ever occurred to you how much you are saying to people even when you are not speaking?  Unless you are a master of disguise, you are constantly sending messages about your true thoughts and feelings whether you are using words or not.

Studies show that your words account for only 7% of the messages you convey. The remaining 93% is non-verbal. 55% of communication is based on what people see and the other 38% is transmitted through tone of voice. So think about it.  In the business setting, people can see what you are not saying.  If your body language doesn't match your words, you are wasting your time.

Eye contact is the most obvious way you communicate.  When you are looking at the other person, you show interest.  When you fail to make eye contact, you give the impression that the other person is of no importance.  Maintain eye contact about 60% of the time in order to look interested, but not aggressive.

Facial expression is another form of non-verbal communication. A smile sends a positive message and is appropriate in all but a life and death situation. Smiling adds warmth and an aura of confidence.  Others will be more receptive if you remember to check your expression.

Your mouth gives clues, too, and not just when you are speaking. Mouth movements, such as pursing your lips or twisting them to one side, can indicate that you are thinking about what you are hearing or that you are holding something back.

The position of your head speaks to people.  Keeping your head straight, which is not the same as keeping your head on straight, will make you appear self-assured and authoritative.  People will take you seriously.  Tilt your head to one side if you want to come across as friendly and open.

How receptive you are is suggested by where you place your arms.  Arms crossed or folded over your chest say that you have shut other people out and have no interest in them or what they are saying.  This position can also say, "I don't agree with you."  You might just be cold, but unless you shiver at the same time, the person in front of you may get the wrong message.

How you use your arms can help or hurt your image as well.  Waving them about may show enthusiasm to some, but others see this gesture as one of uncertainty and immaturity.  The best place for your arms is by your side. You will look confident and relaxed.  If this is hard for you, do what you always do when you want to get better at something - practice.   After a while, it will feel natural.

The angle of your body gives an indication to others about what's going through your head.  Leaning in says, "Tell me more."  Leaning away signals you've heard enough.  Adding a nod of your head is another way to affirm that you are listening.

Posture is just as important as your grandmother always said it was.  Sit or stand erect if you want to be seen as alert and enthusiastic.  When you slump in your chair or lean on the wall, you look tired. No one wants to do business with someone who has no energy.

Control your hands by paying attention to where they are. In the business world, particularly when you deal with people from other cultures, your hands need to be seen.  That would mean you should keep them out of your pockets and you should resist the urge to put them under the table or behind your back.  Having your hands anywhere above the neck, fidgeting with your hair or rubbing your face, is unprofessional.

Legs talk, too.  A lot of movement indicates nervousness.  How and where you cross them tells others how you feel.  The preferred positions for the polished professional are feet flat on the floor or legs crossed at the ankles.  The least professional and most offensive position is resting one leg or ankle on top of your other knee.  Some people call this the "Figure Four." It can make you look arrogant.

The distance you keep from others is crucial if you want to establish good rapport.  Standing too close or "in someone's face" will mark you as pushy. Positioning yourself too far away will make you seem standoffish.  Neither is what you want so find the happy medium.  Most importantly, do what makes the other person feel comfortable.  If the person with whom you are speaking keeps backing away from you, stop.  Either that person needs space or you need a breath mint.

You may not be aware of what you are saying with your body, but others will get the message.  Make sure it's the one you want to send.

Top 5 Reasons to Sing Out Your Stress

Top 5 Reasons to Sing Out Your Stress

When people find out that I'm a music therapist, the comments I hear most often are "I wish I could sing!" or  "Oh, I love to sing, but I'm not good enough to do it in front of anyone". Some of these people tell me that, as children, a parent, teacher or someone else told them that they should just mouth the words because they didn't have a good enough voice.

Singing is our birthright! Singing is a natural and pure expression of how glad we feel to be alive, and the way we show our love of music. Here are my top five reasons to sing out your stress:

1. To connect with your body: We sing with our whole bodies. Because singing is so connected to closely with breath, singing helps us "be in our bodies" and let go of the thinking (or worrying) we do much of the day. Singing can be a joyful activity and can release endorphins (those feel-good chemicals that the body creates).

2. To connect with yourself: Meditative toning, singing along to a favourite song or simply humming to yourself are all ways to tap into your inner landscape and see what's going on in there.

3. To connect with others: Singing with other people - in meditation, prayer, at a sing-along, at a concert, or even over the telephone or Internet - helps us experience in a very deep way that we are all truly connected.

4. To express your feelings: Many times a singer, songwriter or composer has expressed our feelings in a way we could never have - if there's a song that expresses what you want or need to say, try singing along (keep in mind that this is just for you and it's not about "sounding good").

5. To boost your good feelings: Whatever you focus on, you'll invite more of into your life. You can choose uplifting, joyful and celebratory songs to sing.

So sing out! Be proud of your own unique voice. Experiment with what works for you - keep a journal of what you notice in your mind and body when you sing specific songs. Then you can choose the right song for the right moment and make use of the power of singing in your own life.

A Change Will Do You Good

A Change Will Do You Good

As the last rays of summer's warmth ebb away and the gentle breezes of autumn waft themselves upon us, we recognize once again, that change is inevitable. Nature is constantly changing and yet, so many people have the notion that change is frightening.

People are creatures of habit and some find it difficult to adjust to changes that are certain to come our way.  Life is like an old, comfortable pair of shoes. We may realize that we need new ones and we may even find new ones we really like, but, we know that changing will cause us discomfort for a little while until we break them in.

Sometimes we need to realize that life isn't always easy.  What may be better for us is not what we are used to, but it is certainly worth the trouble of breaking in new habits and lifestyle changes.

Change does not have to be painful. Just look to nature and it will give you clues to how change can be effortless.  The beautifully colored autumn leaves do not hang on to the old tree for dear life.  No, they yield to the changes with ease and float gently off the tree.

With the coming of autumn we have been busy in our gardens pulling up the old stuff and getting ready for a time of rest.  We know that the ground must rest and next year there will be more wonderful things in our garden to delight us.

Are there things in your life that need to be gently eased out of your life? Maybe there are bad relationships or habits or thoughts that need to be weeded out of your life. Don't be afraid to do a little gardening in your own life.

Every gardener knows that unless we get to the roots, we really are not getting rid of the problem.  It may go away for awhile but unless we get to the root, it will sneak back into the garden very quickly.

Although the harvest time is here there is no time to stop weeding the garden of our minds.  This garden needs constant attention in order for us to flourish and be all that we can be.  The only way to keep this garden in top shape is to make sure that no weeds are there trying to strangle any good we are trying to do.  The weeds of our mind, of course are negative thoughts that like to creep in and keep us from achieving that which we are striving for.

William James said, "Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.

How do we change the inner attitudes of our minds?  By changing the way we think. We must put fear and negativity behind us. How, you ask?  Just as the leaves of autumn gently blow from the tree, don't try and make a change in your thinking over night and expect to get instant results.  We cannot rip these thoughts out of our minds, as much as we would like to sometimes. No, we need to be gentle on ourselves and let positive thoughts replace the negative.

Yes it will take some work on your part. You must constantly fill your mind with positive thoughts.  Proverbs 27: 3 says, As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.  We are what we think.  When the negative thoughts come into your mind, you must be ready and willing to replace those thoughts with positive ones.  Just say to yourself, no, I won't let that thought take over my mind, I will think positively.  Affirmations are good to have readily available so you can replace the negative thought with the positive one.  It won't be easy, it won't be hard either, it will just be different, like that new pair of shoes we were talking about earlier.

The autumn leaves fall to make way for new life.  We too must go through changes that will bring new growth to our bodies, souls and spirits.

Change is inevitable, so why fight it? Why be afraid of it? Yes, change will require us to do a bit of readjusting but it is always worth it.  Don't be afraid of change, a change will do you good.

Access To The Internet Is A Fundamental Human Right

Even a single source of light can provide enough illumination to pierce through darkness. This was evident in the recent verdict of the Kerala High Court, which ruled that internet access is a fundamental right. In fact, it has been over a year since the General Data Protection Regulation, a landmark privacy legislation, has been in place in the European Union. These stands in different parts of the world are heartening, for they recognize individual freedoms, especially at a time when wider sociopolitical developments and growing digitization are meeting in complex — and worrying — ways. In a digital age, individual access to resources and spaces as important as the internet and even social media, which form a large part of the world wide web, cannot be curbed, and the need to maintain them as free, fair and safe platforms must be emphasized. This is crucial because the internet has witnessed several occasions during which the principle of freedom has been upended, turning it into an increasingly monitored entity. There are arguments that the communication blockade imposed on Kashmir — now in its 54th day — by the Union government after sections of Article 370 were abrogated could be perceived as a violation of the fundamental rights of citizens in the Valley. Technological giants, too, can be active agents in the disruption of freedoms, but in other ways. Digital advertising is, for the most part, unregulated and dominated by a handful of market winners whose business models involve privacy-invasive practices.
The need to protect individual freedoms is important. But these rights, too, must be exercised with wisdom and responsibility. The Supreme Court has recognized the “dangerous” way in which technology is developing and asked the Centre to formulate guidelines for regulating social media. The apex court’s concerns, especially in the light of the manner in which social media platforms are used for certain kinds of strong-arm political and ideological mobilizations, are legitimate. Such activities go against the foundational idea of the internet being an even playing field. The need for a kind of responsible monitoring is, as India’s highest court has indicated, undeniable. However, given that elected dispensations often have vested interests when it comes to such regulatory practices, is there a case to be made for sensitizing citizens instead?

What's Your Excuse for Not Being Successful in Life?

By: David Neese
Excuses! Excuses! When we fail to do something we are expected to do, we almost always have an excuse for it. However, if we analyze it closely, an excuse is a self-destructive alibi for having failed to do something, especially when it involves attaining a goal. Instead of trying to persevere in finding ways to continue achieving a goal, some of us resort to excuses.

Even a handicap cannot be used as an excuse. Many handicapped but determined people have become achievers and champions. Instead of using a handicap as an excuse, let us turn it into an asset. Let us explore this further.

A handicap need not be a reason for failure. On the contrary, a handicap can be a reason for success. People with a handicap always have an offsetting strength that allows them to overcome problems better than others.

A person with a handicap has one obsession - to lead a normal life. Depending on the handicap, a person would prefer to be as independent as possible. So he struggles and finds ways to overcome his impediment. When he is able to achieve his goal, this raises his self-esteem. In turn, he inspires others.

Everybody has handicaps in varying forms and degree. That is why; it requires effort and determination to overcome them. Handicaps can either be physical, financial, or emotional. And they can either be real or imagined.

Whenever we look at a handicap, we almost always look on the negative side only. It's about time we take a look at the positive side of it. The positive side may be the difficult side, but it's the one worth looking into. It's the side that is going to lead us to excel in life.

If you think your handicap is physical, like having a weak body, you can counteract this through proper diet and training exercises. As long as the physical parts of your body are intact and mobile, there's no reason why you cannot make it strong and useful. Why? Even those without a leg (for example) can be made to walk or run normally. With the advancement of science, artificial legs can help a handicap function with great mobility.

It your handicap is financial, then the more reason you have to rise above your present status. And if your financial status limits your educational attainment to improve your life, the school is not the only place to learn. Certainly, there are help centers to get you started even from zero level. Once you are initially warmed up with the basics of an education, the rest is up to you. Make use of libraries. Once you are educationally equipped, use your brain and come up with creative ideas to improve your life.

If you are emotionally disturbed with negative thoughts, it is like you are sitting on a chair with wobbling legs. Try sitting on a chair with sturdy legs; meaning, look at the bright, positive side of life. Put aside negativity and start thinking positively. The only one who can stop you is yourself.

If your handicap is a combination of any of the physical, financial, or emotional type, congratulations. You should strive more to overcome them, because a double layer of perseverance results to more than double the achievement. Where the odds are greater, the prize gets much bigger. After all the efforts you have exerted, the prize of success shall be a well-deserved one.

So what's your excuse for not being successful?

Mirror of Self Reflection

By: Robin J
Age creeps up on us all slowly stripping away our youth then one day we look into the mirror and the body does not seem to match the sparkle in the eyes anymore. Then we begin to look over our shoulder at our past and think I wonder what would have happened or what if I had taken this path?

The concept of there only being one life and a limited amount of time to live it is to most people like someone saying there is no Santa Claus. We simply want to believe in forever just like we wanted to believe in happily ever after as children.

You may think I am advocating quitting your job and going trekking in Africa but no that is not where this is going. Living is an art in itself it is not about time management or fit as much in as I can. It is about passion, depth, vision, love and much more.

I wish I could remember the taste of a meal long after I have eaten it, I wish I could see my partners face long after they have left, I wish I could feel my friends hug as she embraced me long after she had let go, I wish I could picture the one time my Mother said I love you long after she is gone, I wish I was so in tune with life, so aware, so enlightened that every moment was my greatest and I could feel it, taste it, and truly live it.

I do not want to wait until someone tells me there are no more moments left I do not want to feel cheated because a Higher Power took my moments away. I want to be grateful a Higher Power gave me the moment to begin with.

As youth slips away and it will slowly I want to be able to look in the mirror and see the happiness of a life lived with depth and passion etched in my face. I want to be able to feel the touch of my lovers hand as it brushed away my tears not just remember it. But unless I am truly aware truly in the moment at the time allowing myself to feel, letting go of expectations, letting go of the need to hold something back, unless that happens all I will have is a vague memory. I want more I want an imprint so strong I can carry it with me and feel it when the moments are at an end.

My wish for you is that you may look in the mirror of self reflection long before youth has disappeared. I hope you will realize life doesn't need to be filled up with things rather it needs to be soaked up for all it has to offer right now at this very moment. My wish for you is that you may experienced even for a second a state of total being when everything falls away and time stands still and you can taste the air you breath, feel the earth pulsate beneath your feet and hear the whisper of the Angels.

Time Managmenet

Where DO you get the time?
By: Stephanie Foster
Why does it so often seem like you turn around and it's midnight when you're raising your kids? It seems like no matter what you do sometimes, there's still a lot more work to do by the time you are ready to go to bed. What can you do?

The first thing you need to do is figure out where your time is going each day. Try making notes one day about what you do and how long it takes. If you're feeling really ambitious, you can try this for a week, since every day is going to be different, but even one day will give you an idea as to where you're using up all your time. It may feel like you're wasting time writing these things down, and they will slow you down a bit for that day, but it can be a big help.

Take a look at what you spent your day doing. Now assign a priority to each. How much time would you prefer to spend on each?

Now if you add all these up, you'll probably find out your day is more than 24 hours long if you include time to sleep. That's how it is being a parent.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what items can be done less often. Can you stand a little mess in the house? Can everyone else? Can you get more help from your spouse and the kids in keeping the house clean? You'll have to decide which solution is right for you.

What about time spent surfing the internet or watching TV? Give yourself time limits on each of these. If you have a Tivo or a VCR, try recording your favorite shows and watching them a little later, skipping the commercials. Not only does this allow you to choose the time you watch your shows, it can cut down their length.

Sometimes it can be hard finding enough time in your day to be with your kids, yet most parents will call this a priority. Just remember that time with your kids isn't just about having fun. Even small children can help out with making dinner, which can be a great time for talking with kids of any age. My three year old daughter has been helping make salads since she was two. The lettuce ends up in either rather large or very small pieces, but she has fun helping and we get some great time together. Older kids may or may not appreciate this time, but it's good for them to help out.

I definitely do not recommend cutting back on whatever meals you insist on eating as a family. This is a great thing to do as a family, and if you aren't making time for family meals, find a way to do so! Even if it's just dinner one night a week together, no activities or sports to run off too, your family needs the time to relax together.

Finally, are there things you can cut out all together? If you feel as though you've been pushed into doing things for others because you're at home and "have time," don't feel guilty about telling people that you do not have the time to do things they want you to do. Your family comes first. If you really want to volunteer, think about either cutting back the number of hours when you need more time for yourself or your family, or volunteering for something you can do as a family.

There are only so many hours to a day, and so many things you'd love to get done. Take a good look at what you need to do, want to do and don't really need to do, and you can find ways to feel a little less overwhelmed most of the time. You'll go through times where there just aren't enough hours in the day even when you know your priorities, but you can cut down on the less important stuff and relieve a lot of your stress.

Modern learners are moving away from traditional and prescriptive learning. Specifically,

They want the learning to be in sync with their lifestyles.
The learning should be integrated seamlessly into their workday.
They understand the value of “continuous learning” and expect the L&D teams to provide this environment in the workplace.
The content should be searchable and must be packaged to address specific needs and trigger the desired action.
They are not satisfied by the access to “learning pathways” but they need these to be highly personalized “career pathways.”
The learners want learning designs and experiences to echo the way they access Google or Amazon or Netflix.
Essentially, they want the flexibility to get the right learning resources fast, easily and on-demand.
They want access to the learning content and resources on the go, on their devices, and they do not want to log on to an LMS every time they have a need.
Additionally, they want meaningful recommendations that keep them connected and encourage them to come back for more.
As a Learning Consultant, I see L&D teams feel challenged by this shift. As I see it, this is the new normal, and L&D teams must re-strategize to meet this mandate.

The crucial change is from a “push” based training that is mandated on an LMS to a flexible “pull” based training that aligns to learners’ lifestyle and workday.

The next gen platforms like the LXPs are leading the way in offering this learning experience wherein the learners can define their own learning path. There are many other measures that you can adopt that will help you successfully meet this mandate. Let us begin this exercise by looking at the different perspectives from key stakeholders (L&D, Business, as well as employees). From this analysis, we will identify the critical employee needs that you need to incorporate in your learning design, and then, I list the possible approaches that will enable you to create effective and high-impact training.

The L&D Team’s Perspective
From the L&D perspective, their mandate is driven by Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and typically includes:

  • Trainings for Upskilling.
  • Trainings for Reskilling.
  • Cross-functional Training.
  • Training to fix an identified gap.
  • Practice sessions to hone skills or for proficiency gain.

To support the primary training, they also need to provide for:

Just-in-time learning aids that are available in the learners’ workflow (so that they do not need to go to the LMS) and can be easily accessed at the time of their need.
Reinforcements to avoid the “Forgetting Curve” setting in.
Challenges that push learners and act as nudges to review, refresh, or practice.
Other supporting measures like Coaching and Mentoring.
Increasingly, they are adding measures that can foster a culture of continuous learning and these include:

  • Leveraging on platforms for Social or Collaborative learning.
  • Offering curated content to ensure learners explore and keep coming back for more.
  • Encouraging learners to upload content (User Generated Content).
  • The Business Unit’s Perspective
  • The Business Unit looks at the training investment as a key measure to ensure that their teams are well-equipped to meet the business goals.

They want to see the investment of time and money spent on training results in a demonstrable gain notably on:

  • Acquisition of new skills.
  • Enhanced skills (performance improvement).
  • Application of the acquired learning on the job.
  • Behavioral change.
  • Self-Directed Learning.

However, their crucial need is to see:

The alignment of employee skills to meet the business KPIs.
The ability to measure the impact of training on employee performance as well as on the business.
The Employees’ Perspective and Their Critical Needs
The employees want organizations to invest on:

  • Training on the go.
  • Training on demand.
  • Varied design formats to address the diverse expectations of today’s multi-generational workforce.
  • Providing flexibility to consume training on the device of their choice and be able to move seamlessly across devices to complete it.
  • Offering content that is sharp and focused and can be consumed in short bites.

Give options to “pull” content based on their needs, aspirations, or interests rather than mandated courses on an LMS.
Provide controls to decide the quantum of time that learners choose to invest on the training and what works best with the learners.
They want learning designs that are:

  • Accessible.
  • Available on demand.
  • Available within their workflow.
  • Motivating.
  • Engaging and immersive.
  • Relevant, relatable, and personalized.
  • Intrigue them and encourage them to explore and come back for more.
  • Challenging.
  • Rewarding.

To meet the employee needs, you should adopt learning designs that:

Boost the learner engagement.
Ensure knowledge acquisition happens.
Facilitate the application of the acquired learning on the job.
Guarantee the desired performance gain and ROI occurs.
Certify a positive ROI on training spend is established.

How Can You Accomplish This?
Here are my recommendations that will address the needs of all three stakeholders and also ensure that the critical employee needs are fully met. I have layered them into 3 steps, and you can build on from one to the next.

Step 1: Opt for training delivery approaches that help learners learn. More specifically, add approaches that enable them to apply this learning to show better performance or the desired behavioral change. These should include:

  • Mobile Learning.
  • Digitalization of ILT (to Blended or Fully Online).
  • Performance Support Tools.
  • Informal Learning.
  • Social Learning.
  • Self-Directed Learning.

Step 2: Leverage on Learning strategies that have a proven track record of delivering a high engagement quotient and can create a sticky learning experience. Do integrate some of the new or emerging ones too to meet your employee needs and create highly immersive learning designs.

Some of my recommendations are:

  • Microlearning.
  • Gamification.
  • Video Based Learning (Videos and Interactive Videos).
  • Mobile Apps for Learning.
  • Personalization.
  • Curation and User Generated Content.
  • AR/VR and MR for Immersive Learning.

Step 3: Invest on tools and platforms to measure, enhance, and maximize the impact of their training. These could include:

  • Learning Engagement Platforms – LXP.
  • Learner Analytics.
  • Big Data-Reporting and Analytics.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Learning.
  • I hope this article provides useful insights on your employee’s needs and how you can incorporate them in your learning designs. My inputs will certainly help you create and deliver training that addresses the employee needs and will also help you show demonstrable gain that business units seek.

GATE to success

Only three months are left for the GATE 2020 exam. AS Pandit tells aspirants what they can do to secure a seat in institutes like IITs and NITs
It’s a crucial period for the aspirants of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 scheduled on February 1, 2, 8 and 9. Conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of India (IITs) headed by one institute every year, candidates who end up qualifying the exam are not just eligible to secure a seat in IISc/IITs/NITs for higher education courses like MTech and PhD but can also get hired by various Public Sector Undertakings for high-paying engineering-related jobs.
No wonder, the competitive exam is gaining popularity among the students day by day. However, with just 3 months left for the exam, many of you might have started panicking over how to crack GATE 2020 exam with a good rank. Fret not.
Here is a preparation strategy you must follow to ace the GATE:

Focus on the syllabus
While you all must be familiar with the syllabus of the exam and the subjects involved, make sure you are thoroughly aware of the latest one and the topics being covered. All questions asked in the examination are directly related to the topics mentioned in the syllabus.
Subject and topic weightage
Analyse the question papers from the previous 10 years and research on the marks distribution of each subject. This will give you an idea about the core topics to prepare as in the GATE exam, questions are generally asked from the core area of the syllabus, which has to be prepared well.
Keep the fundamentals clear
Unlike other competitive examinations, while preparing for GATE, it is important to clear your basic concepts rather than cramming the formulas. Since simple questions are asked in a tricky format, be thorough with your concepts in order to understand and solve the questions.
Now that you have understood the pattern of the questions, start with solving as many mock test papers as possible, followed by the previous year’s question papers. This will help in adapting to the online pattern and assess your preparation.

Based on the test analysis, you can focus on their weak areas. However, keep in mind that the pattern of the examination has changed for the next year.
Focus on high return and easy questions
During preparations, lay emphasis on topics like Engineering Mathematics and General Ability as they carry 30 per cent of the total marks and are fairly easier to score in. You could look at some online lectures to prepare for these topics.
Attempt the easier questions first
You should go through all questions and try solving those questions first, which you find easy and require less time to score qualifying marks.Beware of attempting questions you are not confident of as there is negative marking too.
Unwind before the exam
When it's just one day left before GATE, stop bothering much about it. Go out for a drive or do anything that relaxes you. Sit for the exam with a rejuvenated mind.
With 90 days in your hand, follow the aforementioned strategy and start your preparation for GATE 2020 exam considering it as your only attempt. However, remember this isn't the end of the world. So, go ahead and give your best shot.

Google launches App Defense Alliance to help catch bad Android apps

Google launches App Defense Alliance to help catch bad Android apps

Google's Play Store is home to millions of useful apps, but isn't always safe from software that hosts malware and obnoxious adware. Recently, the company has been attempting to clean up the Play Store and use it to push security updates. Untrustworthy app developers have found themselves in Google's cross hairs, with major developers being banned from the store due to ad fraud.

Now, as part of Google's crusade against dangerous apps, the company has set up a partnership with security firms ESET, Lookout and Zimperium. The App Defense Alliance is "working to stop bad apps before they reach users' devices" by checking new apps that are queued for publication on the Play Store and booting out those which are dangerous.
Google is integrating the scanning systems from each security group into its Play Protect detection system that scans apps for malware and other threats. The partner companies will also analyze data about app threats to hopefully scoop up any more malicious apps before they are published. Google says the systems will use a combination of machine learning and static and dynamic analysis to detect suspicious apps.
The App Defense Alliance is needed now more than ever to tackle the problem of Android malware. A recent report by malware researcher Lukas Stefanko found 172 harmful apps in the Play Store with more than 335 million combined installs, including apps containing hidden adware, stalkware, subscription scams and banking trojans.

Microsoft is using its AI power to speed up detection of cervical cancer in India

One year when Microsoft teamed up with SRL medical specialty — India's largest medical specialty services supplier for pathology and radiology — the pair declared that their co developed AI-enabled tool for police investigation cervical willcer can accurately spot abnormalities in cervical sample pictures, Tech Crunch reports. Business corporate executive Intelligence The AI model supercharged by Microsoft's Azure will quickly scan for early stage cancer and deliver insights to pathologists — and it's currently longing a method of validation. Cervical cancer claims the lives of regarding 270,000 patients annually, and twenty fifth of cases is copied to Asian country.

Because cervical cancer is such a prevailing issue within the region — and pathologists ought to cope with sorting through a high variety of samples — SRL medical specialty sought-after to contour the method of mining through the a hundred,000 cervical cervical smear samples its pathologists receive every year.

It is smart for developers of AI tools to eye India's burdened care system, as it's ripe for digital health disruption:

The Indian care system is up against a population that is changing into sicker aboard a waning pool of doctors. Cancer mortality in Asian country has doubled over the last 3 decades — and cancer diagnoses area unit slated to extend twofold through 2040, in keeping with analysis within the Journal of worldwide medical specialtywhich surge coincides with a shortage of doctors: The doctor-to-patient quantitative relation in Asian country is zero.76 to 1,000, that falls well below the one per one,000 the United Nations agency recommends. Pathologists specializing in medical specialty area unit even more durable to return by, in keeping with policy think factory Niti Aayog. powerless doctors and health systems stand to profit from investment in school that accelerates screening and designation.

And care professionals area unit embrace digital health school to resolve their woes. Asian country outshines alternative countries once it involves digital health adoption: half of 1 mile of Indian health professionals reported implementing some kind of digital health school in 2019 — compared with seventy two of UK health leaders, as an examplein keeping with Philips Future Health Index. And care professionals in Asian countries area unit before the curve on AI adoption with seventy four victimization it in hospitals, compared with solely forty sixth of professionals within the US.

Microsoft's partnership with SRL demonstrates however massive school will fill in knowledge gaps holding hospitals back from totally leverage AI for medical medical specialty. Over half US health system execs assume that AI for imaging or medical specialty are high impact by 2024: AI will diagnose conditions up to a hundred times quicker in some cases, and AI-generated care savings might eclipse $150 billion by 2025 — however there still exist a excess of problems exclusion health systems from effectively implementing AI ways.
