FUNCTIONS OF STARTERS

•          To limit starting current at starting of motor.

•          To start and stop the motor.

•          To permit automatic ON/OFF, when required

•          To protect motor and other equipments from overload , low voltage etc.

TYPES OF STARTERS:

1. Direct on line (DOL) starter -  full voltage starting.
2. Auto transformer starter      - reduced voltage starting.

3. Star-Delta starter                -  reduced voltage starting.

4. Rotor resistance starter      -  used for slip ring motor.

            1,2,3 are used for both Squirrel cage and Slip-ring motor ,4 is used only for Slip ring induction motor
